Try a Race

No longer for just seasoned athletes, mud 5K and 10K obstacle courses have recently become a more appealing option than traditional races for many couch potatoes wishing to shatter their sedentary lifestyles. For starters, they are more achievable and realistic to finish than a marathon or triathlon—yet still provide a sense of accomplishment even if part of the course is walked.

According to Outside Magazine, obstacle course racing is now a $250 million industry and perhaps the fastest growing sport in history. In 2010, about 41,000 people entered 20 US events. Last year, an estimated 1.5 million people participated in 150 events, which are now held in nearly every major metropolitan area.
