Probiotic Aids D Absorption

Taking a daily probiotic supplement may increase vitamin D levels in the blood by 25 percent.

A recent study determined that a probiotic may increase absorption of vitamin D in the gastrointestinal tract. The probiotic tested was a strain of Lactobacillus reuteri.

Previous research has linked low levels of vitamin D to heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders.
