Good Sources of Probiotics

yogurt and kefir

You’ve heard about the “good” bacteria that live in your gut that help aid digestion and boost immunity.

You can support these bacteria by taking probiotics in food, drink, and supplement form. Foods that are cultured or fermented with lactobacilli are your best bet for probiotics. These include:

  • miso
  • tempeh
  • unpasteurized sauerkraut
  • kefir (a fermented milk drink)
  • yogurt.

Maureen Williams, ND, says consuming foods that lactobacilli like to eat can ensure that the bacteria thrive in your gut. Make their favorite foods some of yours, such as bananas, onions, garlic, and Jerusalem artichoke.
